Lee Sharpe returned after long-term injury and showed no ill-effects. Bruno Ribeiro picked up a knock and was replaced at Half-Time by Alf-Inge Haaland and Ian Harte at Left Back for Danny Granville and Robert Molenaar for David Wetherall at Centre Half were other Half-Time substitutes. Peter Thorne gave the home team the lead in the fifty-eighth minute, when he shot home the rebound from a Peter Kavanagh shot that Nigel Martyn could only parry. It was, however, United's final substitute, David Hopkin, on for Lee Bowyer at Inside Right, in the sixty-fifth minute who got the Leeds equalizer with five minutes on the clock. Mark Beeney and Derek Lilley remained unused on the bench. Stoke substitutes were Goalkeeper Stuart Fraser, Defender Ally Pickering, Midfielders James O'Connor and Robert Heath, and Striker Dean Crowe. The Referee was Anthony Bates of Stoke.
